Phishing Attack on Yahoo Messenger, Sober .q (Propaganda Spam)
There is a new phishing attack introduced. This attack targets the users of Yahoo Messenger. According to the experts, this attack targets Yahoo Messenger users only.
Whenever someone uses Yahoo Messenger, one message comes up in the name of the person from the contact list of that user. The message takes user to a different website and obtains the User ID and the Password of the user. Once the information is given, the attack starts targeting all the personal IDs of the user. Since the message comes from the name of a person in user’s contact list, people treat it as a trusted message and click on the link given by the attack.
The only way to avoid this sort of attacks is to pay the similar attention towards IM messages as one gives to emails.
Identity: Sober .q (Propaganda Spam)
There is an attack known as Sober .q. This is an attack supported by a previous attack Sober .p. The computer systems already affected by Sober .p are controlled remotely and afterwards this Sober .q is inserted in those systems.
The Sober q. spreads messages in the inboxes of people in German and English language. The message takes the person to a website, which has German Nationalist Content in it. These messages are purely political.
The way to avoid and get protected from this type of spam threats is to let the spam filter turn-on in the email box. If these types of message are seen, one should avoid opening or reading them.
